Eric Milligan has spent over 40 years in public service. In 1974 he was elected to Lothain Regional Council representing his home ward of Gorgie - and has held that ward ever since.
Twice Lord Provost of Edinburgh and a former convener of both Lothian Regional Council and the City of Edinburgh Council, Eric has been conferred with honorary doctorates from Edinburgh Napier University and Heriot-Watt University and is also Honorary Consul for New Zealand in Scotland.
Eric is the Labour spokesperson on the Planning Committee, and a member of the Education, Children and Families and Economic Development Committees. He is also a member of Lothian and Borders Police Board.
He lives with his wife Janis in Kingsknowe in the west of the city. Eric is currently President of the Edinburgh International Jazz and Blues Festival and a director of the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company and the Royal Yacht Britannia Trust. He is a former chairman of the Edinburgh Festival Society and of The Edinburgh Military Tattoo Ltd. Away from public life his interests include football, rugby and music, and he is a keen gardener.
