Better Together

Edinburgh Labour folk believe that a strong Scottish Parliament within the United Kingdom gives us the best of both worlds: real decision making power here in Scotland, as well as a key role in a strong and secure UK. We fought for and delivered devolution because it retains the strength of our union while bringing decision making closer to the people.

We intend to play our full part in the campaign to keep Scotland and the rest of the UK Better Together. And on 25th and 26th August we are joining in with the Better Together National Campaign Weekend to help get the message out. And we'd like you to join in too.

There are events across the country, and across Edinburgh. In Edinburgh East, Saturday 25th August sees
  • 11.30am - 2pm a street stall on Portobello High Street (between Portobello Town Hall and the Bank of Scotland building) - we'll be signing folk up to the Better Together campaign, handing out leaflets and information, and listening to people's thoughts on the referendum.
  • Morning and afternoon canvassing sessions in Northfield and the Durhams, when we'll talk to local people about their views and deliver information leaflets.
  • A free lunch for hungry canvassing volunteers.
  • And at 4pm to round off the day a Better Together Barbecue to which all are welcome!
Please get in touch with Garreth Lodge garrethjlodge@gmail.com if you'd like to join in or want any further information about the Edinburgh East campaign day.

Edinburgh Labour out canvassing for Better Together!

Meanwhile Edinburgh Labour North and Leith are organising another Better Together street stall at Register House, Princes Street between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday 25th. And there will also be a Better Together stall at West Pilton and Muirhouse Community Gala on Sunday 26th. So there may be a wee competition brewing about who gets the most sign-ups...

There will be other events over the weekend of 25th/26th August all over the city and across the country. Please consider signing up as a volunteer and joining us and thousands of others in the vital campaign to keep Scotland in the UK.
